The meeting where I knew I wouldn't be there much more. Had to hold back the tears until I'd got out of the hall.

What was your saddest day as a JW?
by jambon1 ini had many days like this but i will never forget the time that a 'prominent elder' publicaly declared that he wants to see the worldly people die at armaggeddon.
"i hope that i can look out the window & watch it all happening".
i went home and thought; 'wtf am i a part of here'?

Why did Abel offer "fatty pieces" to Yahweh?
by easyreader1970 infrom my understanding--at least from my instruction from the wbts--humans were not permitted to eat meat by yahweh until after the flood.
if that is true, then why would abel offer tasty, delicious "fatty pieces" to yahweh?
how would abel even know how to cut up an animal for food and know which parts were the best for eating?.

Staying with my girlfriend at the moment.
Sat: Birthday party (I've been told the food is going to especially good).
Sun: Meal at her parents (and her Dad used to work as a chef).
Yum. :)
We're both busy with work stuff at the moment, so I expect we'll be spending some time on that too.
Have a good one all! -

What will you do when the Great Tribulation Begins?
by Malkiel ini've always wanted to ask this question to those that have decided to leave the organization.. what will you do when the great tribulation begins?.
right now folks, a lot is happening in the political world.. gordon brown (prime miniter of england) last week gave a speech to the un stating that it is time for the un to step in and solve the world's problems, (specifically mentioning the economy and hunger crisis worldwide.).
barrack obama is shaping up to be the next president, a fellow who sure knows how to persuade and lead great crowds.

Malkiel,
The book I have in mind is How to Read the Bible: History, Prophecy, Literature - Why Modern Readers Need to Know the Difference, and What It Means for Faith Today by Steven L. McKenzie.
I feel that reading that book (as well as the bible and full blown commentaries on Daniel and Revelation) resulted in my eyes being opened. It does not attack faith in the bible and Christianity, but promotes a much clearer understanding of the relevant literature. Chapter four is particularly pertinent, but it's all well worth reading. As I said before, you won't find anything related specifically to Jehovah's Witnesses in there. This is about constructive, positive education.
If you have a read, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Hi Malkiel,
From what I read of the responses to your question, I gather the ones who you read as choosing death don't actually believe the great tribulation is coming and only answered as if it were. (There's a word for this sort of comment, and I can't remember what it is...)
I notice that you seem to use the phrase "the fact is" quite a lot with regard to the situation today. Facts should be demonstrable, and should stand up to scrutiny. Now, would you allow me to recommend you one book to read? It is not by any ex-Witness or anti-Witness, and does not even mention the Watchtower Society or Jehovah's Witnesses; it's written by a scholar of Hebrew and is entirely concerned with correctly reading the bible.
I await your reply. -

That's a long time to go without a drink. (I was thinking of fluids, not necessarily alcohol.)
I suppose I'd try and sleep as much as possible to avoid the worry/boredom. -

How many will bother going to the bookstudy between now and January?
by DT inif i were still in, i would find it hard to be excited about going to the book study now that i know it is doomed.
the revelation book has already been hashed to death.
the silly five finger death grip illustration doesn't apply any more.

I wonder if many will allow this to affect their view of the meetings and what they're told about them. For so long, every one of those meetings has been put forward as something very important, not to be missed, an important part of Jehovah's feast. And then you're suddenly told that one of them is being amalgamated into another one.
Will some wonder if they can be bothered with the Thursday meeting, too? -

Why does BETHEL NOT ALLOW district and circuit overseers to get-together.
by yesidid insome time ago a district overseer i know decided to have a social gathering of the do and co's.
after a district convention.
when bethel found about it, the do was told to, and did cancel it immediately.. i have often wondered why they don't want the do's and co's to socialise.. what do you think?.

Yeah, what daniel-p said. Having those relatively high up in responsibility getting together and discussing the grittier things of JW'ism could well lead to autonomy.

Welcome easyrider. Can't imagine what that situation feels like.
As you're still officially in and in some sort of standing, you're in a position where you can carefully do something about your wife and kids if you so choose. I was going to try to find the story that Eliveleth posted - well worth a read.
All the best, and see you round the forum soon.
